Is this cool or what? My dear friends, the Horns - owners of Artisan Builders - have outdone themselves with a double herb spiral, in this unforgiving heat, even. Check out the full story at Walton Outdoors.
In this heat, indeed! I heard that June 21, 2009 (the day we built and documented Herb Spiral #2) was the hottest June 21 on record since records were kept (they started that in the late 1800s). Amazingly, all the herbs we planted are doing great in spite of record highs.
There is talk of creating another herb spiral at Twin Oaks Farm this fall, and Brandy at Just Fruits & Exotics (www.justfruitsandexotics.com) tells me they are putting in a permaculture fruit orchard this year. They have a new how-to for growing large variety of fruits in small spaces (i.e., suburban yards) so a fall road trip is in order
